Command Decision 3D Order Cubes

This is about an STL, 3D print file, made by a designer, SpaceCudet, to make order cubes for Command Decision Test of Battle. Click here to download the file. It’s a free download but it would be nice if you tipped SpaceCudet, Matthew Tyler. Unless I’m mistaken this is the guy who made what I call the CD RoboChartmaker!

I have not figured out the size of the file if printed “as is” but I would make them as small as practical, like 1/4″ for micro-armor. I will ask my source for 3D printing, Brian of TK421 to see how small I can make it. Brian is located in San Juan, Puerto Rico but ships to the USA at normal US Postage Service rates. What may set the minimum size is how narrow some of the indentations end up. As I get more feedback, I will post it here.

Update 16 June 2024: Brian said he’d print (20) 1/4″ cubes for $8 and (20) 1/2″ for $11 but I felt that the fine indentations weren’t designed for 1/4″. Below is a photo of some test prints he made of the 1/2″ size. They’re not perfect but don’t need to be.

I would spray paint the cubes a tan or light olive color and then fill the indentations with dark, contrasting earth tones like tan, brown, or the smokescreen (or dust cloud?) with the Disengage directional arrow in white or a tan “dust cloud.” Different color shades could help distinguish different order symbols, which might be fairly small. I don’t like garish colors, so I’ll see how they work out. Contrast is key, a dark symbol on a light background or a light symbol on a dark background, the background color being close to your terrain mat’s coloration.
